Now that there are growing herds of individuals looking for work, some employers view this as an opportunity to treat applicants like cattle. Of course, this is a huge mistake.
When companies treat applicants with disinterest and disdain, they are also signaling the way they most likely treat employees. You can certainly continue to try to contact these companies, but you will make better use of your time by pursuing other employment situations.
Hopefully you have also learned that unless you have a formal job offer, you should not turn down any others. If the scenario in which you have an actual offer arises again, you will be in a very strong bargaining position. You can contact the employer who has not offered you a job and indicate that you have an offer in hand, but you are interested in this individual's company and you would like to know where you stand.
This will not only expedite the process, but will also increase the likelihood of getting an offer because of a basic truth about human nature: people become far more interested in any item if someone else wants it, even if that item is a job applicant.
