Automobiles Cell Phones Safety

I go with my manager to several meetings a month outside the office. He insists on driving to these meetings, and the problem is that he spends most of the time on his cell phone, and I can't tell you how many times we've almost been in accidents. I'm a nervous wreck when I drive with him, but he refuses to let me drive. Can you suggest anything?

The suggestion is very simple: don't get in the car with him. He is an impaired driver, and you are risking your life every time you hit the road with him.

You should sit down with him and tell him that you are extremely concerned about your safety and his because of his use of the cell phone while driving. There are many current studies on the growing number of accidents that have resulted from this practice, and it would not be surprising to find it outlawed in the relatively near future.

You should even give him a few articles on the problem, and then absolutely insist that you drive to these meetings. You should also note some of the other advantages associated with your driving, including the fact that he can devote more attention to his phone calls, he can relax between calls, and he will arrive at the meeting feeling more relaxed and comfortable. And, so will you.

If he refuses to let you drive, you owe it to yourself to stick by your demand. And, if he lets you drive, be sure to watch out for other drivers who are chattering away on their cell phones.
