Although you hear stories of applicants who got job offers by lying in order to get in the door, the more common outcome is that these applicants are shown the door because they have lied.
There is no question that some clueless employers still engage in illegal age discrimination. However, if you hoodwink one of these employers and somehow manipulate yourself into a job, is that really the kind of company where you would like to work?
A better approach is to let potential employers get a sense of the value you can add to the company, especially in terms of your leadership roles, education, and training. Let these employers see that your skills are state-of-the art.
You also need to make it your job to find a job. Establish specific job-search goals and strategies that you follow every day, and devote as much time as necessary to meet them. Importantly, you should continue to build and work with your network. This can include friends, relatives, former co-workers, neighbors, and any other individuals who might be able to help you access a great job. You should also continue to use such sources as newspapers and online resources.
You are dealing with an age-old question, and the answer is in your hands.
